Day-1: Sunset in Heirisson Island

Heirisson Island

After checking out Perth Food and Wine Show (and a bit tipsy) I went with Dessy to the WA Museum to look for some books for her friend's little kid. Proved to us that it is quite tricky to find a book suitable for 2 yo kids! In the museum they are having Jurrasic exhibition, so there is one special temporary section of their gift shop where they have some Dinosaurs' related - collectibes so we can browse around. Again, I have mentioned it a couple of times and I am sticking to my opinion - that kids nowadays, they are damn lucky
Looking at all interesting, educational (or non educational), cool, amusing, creative kinds of toys!
Anyway - I soon let my gruelling jealousy aside as a soft toys of a green T-Rex caught my attention, oh and it has a cute teeths on each side of its mouth too!

Anyway - so after that Dessy dropped me in Heirisson Island. At first I was hesistating if I want to do this walk or not, I have been putting it off for 2 weekends and I will keep thinking about it if I don't do it soon, and the afternoon looks fine, a bit cloudy but I figured out taht it still be ok for taking some photos. And it was good that i didn't let my laziness took control of me haha, as soon as I walked around, the evening sun started to shine very brightly and make the view so pretty. This is what I call the Australia's bright-non filtered evening sunshine!

Heirisson island is a non-inhabited small island (4 kms around the island), located in perth CBD. It is located between East Perth and Burswood. There is a big road with 2 interconnecting bridges to and from the both side of the island, so - if we don't notice it (or if we didn't intentionally go there) we won't even notice that we cross the island. This island has a small population of Grey Kangaroo (I would say maybe only a family or two:p), lots of trees, and walking trail around the island.

It was so peaceful there, despite every now and then the noise from the traffic in the main roads can still be heard. It was a perfect timing of the day to go there as the sun was still out and not too dark at the end of the walk. I can see across the water, Perth skyline with lots of tall buildings as a silhouette as the evening sun partially hide behind them - was so stunning. On the north end of the island was Burswood, Perth Casino, a few good restaurants and a (or some?) hotel as well as the entertainment dome. I keep walking towards the other side of the island, the east side where it was a bit dark because it's covered by the trees, until I reached back the main road. I cross to the south side of the island from a narrow underbridge.

The south part of the island has more to offer than the north part. It has a swampy area, a restricted area where we can go through by opening the gate. The island has a few small ponds, which is so pretty with several ducks and the late afteroon sun reflection on the water.
On the south end of the island I could see South Perth - the trail where I sometimes run or walk. There were several people fishing on the quiet part of the water, some family doing their afternoon walk, a group of teenager feeding several kangaroos and take picture of them.
There is one who stood a bit nearer in front of me on his 2 back legs, ke kept staring towards me, so after a few photos I left - who knows that even a kangaroo can be upset if their pictures are too much taken by stranger:)
On the weest side of the island I feasted my eyes with the view of tall city buidlings silhouette and took a picture of a bird - cormoran?, who hang on a wire fence and just stood there posing for me - as Tyra Banks would have said if she's here "smize!" smile with your eyez! haha

Then I continued to walk towards the city and stopped in one small pond/park with lots of pigeon and ducks, another pretty sight.. and yes, a large quantity of poop drops everywhere.

Heirisson Island is located 2-3 kms walk from Bell Tower, along the Riverside Drive, or just take any city public bus going to East Perth and stop at the end of Adelaide Tce. There is no facility at all on this island and no toilet.
